Ski Holidays in Schladming - Biggest Ski area in Austria

The skiing in the ski holiday resort of Schladming, one of the biggest in Austria, is split into two main areas and there are various ways to access the skiing in Schladming. You can take the gondola up from the centre of Schladming to the exciting Planai ski area or you can access the more relaxed slopes of Hochwurzen by taking the Planai West chair lift from the outskirts of the town that tunnels through the mountain, ensuring your speedy travel to your destination.

Cheap Ski Holidays in Schladming - Year-round Skiing

Surrounding Schladming are many resorts including Galsterbergalm and Haiser Kaibling to the east, and Reiteralm to the west. These resorts are very well regarded on themselves and are all available on the Dachstein Ski Paradise lift ticket. These resorts have also invested very heavily in snow making equipment so it means this area is still a veritable snow centre even late into the season. Another place definitely worth visiting is the Dachstein glacier itself, home to year-round skiing which is accessible from Schladming's neighbour Ramsau. All areas are either lift-linked or a ski bus operates between the resorts which is free to all Dachstein Ski Paradise lift ticket holders.

In the resort itself, beginners should learn the basics on the top of the Planai area on the wide gentle nursery slopes. After a few days it should be time to tackle some of the slopes on Hochwurzen's areas which can be conveniently accessed by chair lift so there's no need to worry about drag lifts. Intermediates are spoilt for choice here as a remarkable 75% of the runs are graded red and a whopping two-thirds are graded red in the entire Ski Paradise area! In terms of expert skiing there is not a huge amount but you can always try your hand at the two World Cup runs and the Dachstein Glacier is particularly good for advanced skiers.
