Flaine is located in the Grand Masif ski area. There are 265 km of piste linking the resorts of Flaine itself with lesCarroz and Morillon. Samoens also links but the lift base is a few miles from the village. Although in Flaine, ski lifts do not go as high as some other ski areas, the snow record in this area is helped greatly by the north facing slopes and the resorts close proximity to Mont Blanc. A large part of the skiing is therefore below the tree line on exciting routes through the trees and giving great opportunities for some great off-piste tree skiing.

Beginners on holiday in Flaine are very well catered for with nursery slopes both at resort level and at the summit. The beginner runs are served by the Colonné, Poya and Petit Balacha rag lifts as well as the Grandes Platières cable car. The two ski schools that operate here use the famous, but rare, Ski Evolutif method to teach.

There is a lot on offer here and Intermediate skiers will be spoilt for choice as all areas of the resort can be accessed by red and blue runs. There is a huge range of types of decent here, from steep quick mogul fields to wide open cruising 'motorways'. There is also a selection of 12 black runs for any expert skiers who have a ski holiday in Flaine. Some of the more popular blacks are the long black that descends to meet the base of the Samoens lift, the Styx and the Diamant Noir. Off-piste opportuniies are great here and a particular favourite of powder hunters is the Combe de Gers bowl of powder snow.
