Eating out in Winter Park

There's a good choice of restaurants in Winter Park, where about 50 of the 60 or so eateries in the area are to be found. There's everything from fast-food staples such as McDonalds, KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Subway through gourmet.

For a taste of local Colorado meats, pasta and fish try the Divide Grill or, to get right off the continent, the Gasthaus Eichler serves jagersnitzel, spaetzle, rouladen and other German specialities. For Mexican The Shed has the best reputation whilst Hernando's Pizza and Pasta Pub serves family-friendly Italian and Fontenot's has established a reputation for zesty New Orleans-style Cajun cuisine.

One vacation favourite that must be mentioned is the sleigh ride dinner through the woods to enjoy dinner in a Western setting. At the ski area itself on-mountain evening dining is offered three nights a week (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) at the Lodge at Sunspot on top of Winter Park mountain. The Lodge is decorated in the style of an elegant mountain lodge of the past. The Zephyr Express chairlift is modified to carry gondola cabins, and gourmet meals on offer include Chilean sea bass and Colorado buffalo prime rib.
